Tentang Kepi at the Two Worlds

It is known that reading and listening to stories are the best habits a person can develop in his/her life. These activities can have large and diverse profits with long-term effects. Introducing children to these activities early will bring many advantages for their future. In addition, raising children to language(s) other than their mother tongue would be beneficial since they can learn only by listening to others. However, having children interested in books can become an easy or difficult task for parents or any young learner’s educator. Therefore, to support these recommendations, we tried to create a book with interesting stories and pictures that could hold children's attention as young learners and stimulate their curiosity.

With great care, we have selected the characters of animals and plants they can find easily in their surroundings for their delight and learning. All the characters are purposely chosen to make them acquainted with wetlands and to introduce English all at once. The story is about Kepi and her mother, mudskippers are known as timpakul, who can live in water and on land. This animal can easily be found in South Kalimantan and other wetlands. As a child curious about anything, Kepi questions many things she found on her way to find food, and her mother passionately explains her questions. In this story, Kepi meets haruan, papuyu, jelawat, shrimps, bekantan, sparrow, mangrove, and kasturi, which are distinct and popular for the people in South Kalimantan.

This book is designed to help children become aware of their wetlands and introduce English as a language they must acquire later on.

Happy reading!
